Coach K speaks at Emily K Center

Published on May 24, 2013 by in Duke

DURHAM — There’s much to learn about Mike Krzyzewski by watching him coach basketball. But the way he has created and given the Emily K Center a vision is telling, too. After a day full of obligations attached to his agreement to coach the USA Basketball through 2016, Krzyzewski came to the nonprofit center named after his mother that was founded in 2006. He was the keynote speaker for the second annual May March, a graduation ceremony for the 15 seniors who had completed the Scholars to College program. All 15 came from low-income backgrounds, and, with the help of the center’s after-school program, all found the necessary recourses to continue their education. It’s a sight Krzyzewski couldn’t have imagined six years ago, when he was approached by Farther David McBriar, then a priest at nearby Immaculate Conception, about wanting

Duke’s Seth Curry makes his pitch for the NBA

Published on May 18, 2013 by in Duke

CHICAGO — Seth Curry doesn’t have his father’s height or his brother’s point-guard skill set. That doesn’t mean he doubts his ability to make an NBA team. Curry’s Duke career ended in the NCAA tournament. Then he had surgery to stabilize a stress fracture he played with throughout his senior season. Now he’s in Chicago, interviewing with NBA teams and hoping to be chosen in next month’s draft. What’s his sales pitch? “I’m an established shooter who can come in right away and not go through an adaption period to the NBA,” said Curry, “I’ve been around this game my whole life. I can come in right away and fill a need. It helped that I spent four years in college, too.” Curry measured 6 feet 3 inches tall in shoes at the NBA Draft Combine. That is below average

Duke’s Coach K made almost $9.7M in 2011, record shows

Published on May 15, 2013 by in Duke

Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski did well for himself in 2011. According to the University’s recently released federal tax return, Krzyzewski made just under $9.7 million in total compensation during 2011, the most recent year for which data is available. That’s $6.9 million more than the next highest paid person at the University, Victor J. Dzau, the head of Duke’s health affairs and medical center. USA Today first reported Krzyzewski’s compensation, and it’s the highest payment to a football or men’s basketball coach since the school began tracking figures in 2006. When contacted by the News Observer, University spokesman Michael Schoenfeld provided the school’s form 990, which is used by tax-exempt organizations to report financial information to the Internal Revenue Service. When asked about Krzyzewski’s pay, Schoenfeld reiterated the statement he gave to USA Today. “By any measure, Coach K

Article written by: +Albert Costill Posted on: May 15, 2013   Genuine Air Jordan III Nike has had a booming business ever since the first Air Jordan made its way onto the court in 1985. Because Air Jordans are in such high demand with basketball players and sneaker collectors, other people want a piece of the pie. Fake Air Jordans have become a serious problem for people trying to catch a great deal on a new pair of kicks. After all, Jordans aren’t cheap. While hardcore collectors can easily tell the difference between authentic Air Jordans and fake, variant, or knockoff Air Jordans, most of the public don’t have that kind of knowledge.
