Be sure to let us know which sneaker nicknames you would like to know the story behind next week. Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Draft Day” Kobe Bryant will go down as one of the best basketball players of all time. However, he almost took his talents to a much smaller market than the lights and glamour of Los Angeles. It’s hard to imagine Kobe in anything but a Laker uniform, but he was actually drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets. That fact is the inspiration behind the nickname and colorway

Babies: Kobe 8 System “Purple Platinum”

Published on May 13, 2013 by in Fashion

Article written by: +Albert Costill Posted on: May 13, 2013 Tweet Even though the 2012-13 NBA Season is done for Kobe, and The Lakers, you can still feel his presence with the recent release of the Nike Kobe 8 System “Purple Platinum”. The Black Mamba rocked these kicks months ago on the court, but they officially dropped at select Nike Basketball retailers on May 11 for $150. The latest colorway from the popular footwear series is exactly what the name implies, because these sneaks are all Purple. Besides the gradient base with that majestic shade of Purple, the Nike Kobe 8 System “Purple Platinum” is detailed by Platinum and Black accents. With the fading of court purple to laser purple from front to back, these look like one of the sickest pair of “Lakers” colorways ever released. Besides the eye-catching

DeMar DeRozan’s Case for 2013 Kicks On Court Champion

Published on May 10, 2013 by in Kool Kicks

We knew something had changed with DeMar DeRozan when he laced up the Air Jordan 11 Low White/Red in the Raptors’ first preseason game this year. You see, the former USC Trojan had exclusively rocked the Kobe signature line since he stepped foot into the league at the beginning of the 2009-2010 NBA season. Attention-worthy player exclusives and NikeiD versions of the Kobes IV-VII graced DeMar DeRozan’s feet throughout his first three seasons in the league. Yet, this season, DeMar predetermined to switch his on-court rotation up – at least for the beginning of the year. “I usually wear Kobes for the entire season, but I wanted to start off the season with something different in the process of me waiting on the Kobe 8s to come in,” said DeRozan. “I just tried to go with old retro Jordans that

Nike Salutes Kobe: You Showed Us…

Published on April 29, 2013 by in Fashion

Article written by: +Albert Costill Posted on: April 29, 2013 Tweet It’s been a tough month for Kobe Bryant, his fans, and the Lakers. The 34-year-old tore his Achilles tendon during a game against the Golden State Warriors, which resulted in surgery and the superstar getting sidelined for at least 9 months. However, because of the injury and his age, there’s doubt that we’ll ever see Kobe dominate the court again. But, that didn’t stop Nike from giving fans hope. Last week, Nike unveiled an epic black-and-white image that featured Kobe holding a basketball on their Facebook page. The image was accompanied with a checklist of Kobe’s accomplishments with each statement beginning with the words “You Showed Us.” It concludes with “Now, show us again,” a hopeful nod that the Black Mamba will return someday. There’s also an unofficial video

Black Mamba and 14 of the Coolest Nicknames in Sports History

Published on April 3, 2013 by in Fashion

Article written by: +Albert Costill Posted on: April 3, 2013 Tweet Image via ImageCollect If you follow sports, then you’re well aware that nicknames are a common occurrence. In fact, sometimes the nickname becomes so popular and accepted that it’s the only way we know who the player is. But, how does an athlete earn a nickname or moniker? Well, they could be like Dwyane Wade and just give themselves a nickname, like he did with ‘WOW’. But, that’s not usually the norm. Most of the time an athlete is given a nickname by other people because of that athlete’s skills, physical appearance, resemblance to an animal or object, or just out of respect because that athlete is so sick on the field, court, etc. While there are hundreds, probably thousands, of nicknames in the world of sports, here are
