Bring ‘em Back: adidas The Kobe 1

Published on May 5, 2013 by in Kool Kicks

Ok, we admit it. Most of us weren’t ready for the adidas Kobe 1 when they first retroed in 2006. Then again, most of us weren’t ready for the Penny 1 when they first came back in ’00– or the Air Jordan 5 in ’99 for that matter. Time, variety, and a Kicks On Court sighting has these space boot sneakers looking good again. No, these aren’t going to look great with skinny jeans or even camo cargos, but maybe with basketball shorts? Like, on a basketball court? Of course these don’t have to be restricted to the hoop game, as they always looked awesome with leather racing gear, too. We just need some variety. Bring ‘em back! Last summer, Dime Magazine released the first “Shoot Jumpers. Not Guns” T-Shirt in an effort to end gun violence while promoting the game we love. The efforts have been incredible, as the series of t-shirts recently resulted in a $10,000 donation towards refurbishing a basketball court in an area in need. To celebrate the release of this weekend’s Air Jordan 5 retro and continue the fight against gun violence, Dime has released a “Grape” colorway of the shirt. The tees are on sale now for $23 here. All proceeds go towards fighting gun violence in areas of need by refurbishing basketball courts and supporting playground basketball. Source: Dime Article source: Nick Kicks

Published on April 24, 2013 by in Kool Kicks

Tweet With the launch of our new vlog initiative (I still think it needs a better name and we’re open to suggestions…), does this mean that Kicks By The Porch will be going away?  What about all those pictures of kicks in unusual locations like the beach or the backyard or a streetball court?  Who will clean that table in the front porch whenever we decided to come back to it? Fear not, fans of Kicks By The Porch, we will continue to give the people what they want but now it will also come in video form as well.  The idea of the vlogs was to bring a human element to Kicks On Fire as the editors of the site not only write about kicks, but are also passionate fans as well.  So the vlog will now serve as

Published on April 1, 2013 by in Kool Kicks

Signature sneakers get the showcase treatment on the basketball court and the shoe shelves. Sometimes though, the coveted kicks get cameo credit when rocked on the big screen. NCAA Kicks: Kenny Kadji debuts the Nike Zoom Hyperflight PRM LeBron “Superhuman”

Published on March 29, 2013 by in Kool Kicks

If The U is going to go down, they are going to do so in a blaze of sneaker glory.  After emerging from the depths of the ACC (well, what we used to know as The ACC after this season ends), Miami was at one point the top-ranked team in the country, displaying a lot of the same bravado that made the football program famous.  And while they had the confidence to go along with their game, they also had what many consider the best player-to-heat ratio in the country.  From retro Jordans to the latest signature kicks from Kobe and LeBron, color coordination was not really the MO of The U. The ride had to end at some point and while many were hoping it would conclude with Luther Campbell holding up the NCAA title a few weeks from

Duke’s Kelly, Plumlee well-versed with Creighton’s versatile McDermott

Published on March 23, 2013 by in Duke

PHILADELPHIA — When Creighton’s Doug McDermott walked into his hotel room at the Amar’e Stoudemire basketball camp in Chicago, there was a big, green bag in the middle of his floor. The two-time All-American figured that meant his roommate was North Texas’s Tony Mitchell. But then Ryan Kelly came out of the bathroom. “I thought he’d have a Duke Nike bag or something,” McDermott said. “That was kind of funny.” Kelly and McDermott will meet on the court for the first time since last summer Sunday at 9:40 p.m., when No. 2 seed Duke faces No. 7 seed Creighton in the third round of the NCAA tournament for a trip to the Sweet 16. McDermott, who leads the team with 23.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, was a Duke fan during the Shane Battier and Jay Williams era. He
