Last week must have been shocking for actor Tom Cruise, as his wife of five years, Katie Holmes, filed for divorce. The actor, who has been busy filming his upcoming sci-fi thriller, Oblivion, in Iceland did not see this coming. Katie also decided to move out of the couple’s apartment in New York City. She took their daughter, Suri, with her, and she is reportedly demanding sole custody.
Many speculated that Tom’s Scientology faith is one of the main factors in the split. However, there are also conspiracy theorists who think that this has something to do with Tom’s “33 Curse.” That might sound far-fetched, but apparently that’s nothing new in the world of Tom Cruise. He married his first wife, Mimi Rogers, in 1987, and they got divorced when Mimi was 33. Afterwards, he married Nicole Kidman, and they got divorced when Nicole was 33, and now Katie Holmes, who is 33, filed for divorce last week.
Curse or not, apparently Katie Holmes received help from her father, Martin, who is a lawyer. He came to New York to help her file the divorce papers.
This is not going to be a sweet birthday for Tom Cruise who will turn 50 on Tuesday.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got married in 2006 in a lavish ceremony in Italy.
