Duke starts strong, rolls over Western Michigan

Published on December 31, 2011 by in Duke

“We haven’t really shown that all the time, but we certainly did tonight,” Ryan Kelly said of Duke’s impressive opening 10 minutes. Instead of leading to a re-acclimation period for the team, the light December schedule seemed to work in the Blue Devils’ favor against Western Michigan. Duke’s players said they were champing at the bit after all the time away from the court. “This shows how focused we were,” Austin Rivers said. “We have a seven-day break, we haven’t played a game in like two weeks – it’s been a lot of time off. Instead of coming out rusty and getting back into it, we come out from the get-go. “I’m really proud of everybody, and we played as if we just had a game the other day. Derrick Rose to Sign $250 Million Deal with adidas

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has had one heck of a month to say the least. Just nine days after the announcement of his $94.8 million extension with the Bulls, we have now learned that the 2010-2011 MVP is expected to sign a new contract with adidas reportedly worth $250 million. Sources say this “lifetime” deal will pay him $25 million annually over 10 years and will be adidas’ counter to Kobe Bryant in China. Sources also state that Rose already outsells LeBron James in China. If this deal goes through, it will probably make Derrick Rose the highest paid shoe endorser in the NBA. Let’s just say adidas is serious about D.Rose. Article source: Nick Kicks

No. 8 Duke outlasts Temple

Published on December 31, 2011 by in Duke

Lewis and Shey Peddy scored 13 each to lead Temple (5-7). The game saw the return of Blue Devils senior Shay Selby, who had been suspended the previous five games by coach Joanne P. McCallie for violating team rules. Though Selby was back, she didn’t play, and the Blue Devils were without Chloe Wells. The sophomore guard, who was averaging 10.4 points, will be out indefinitely while resolving an academic matter, according to the school. With the score 4-4, Duke put up 14 of the next 17 points, including two 3-pointers by Liston. No. 3 Notre Dame 128, Mercer 42: Markisha Wright had 24 points and Skylar Diggins 21 for the reigning national champion Irish (13-1), who bolted to a 72-30 halftime lead at Mercer (3-10) before setting a school record for points in a game. Wright’s three-point play with
